For those unfamiliar, The Pilgrim’s Progress is an allegory of the Christian life. Christian, the protagonist, flees the "City of Destruction" (this world) and journeys toward the "Celestial City" (Heaven). Along the way, he faces the Slough of Despond, the temptations of Vanity Fair, and the despair of the Giant Despair.
Theologically, Bunyan argued that grace cannot be bought. Historically, the book itself has followed a similar path. Because it was written in the 1600s, the copyright has long expired. It belongs to the public domain. This means that legally, spiritually, and literally, the book is free. It is a "Public Domain" treasure, much like the grace Bunyan wrote about.
The book is an epic tale of faith, perseverance, and redemption, as Christian encounters various characters, both good and evil, on his journey. Through Bunyan's vivid storytelling and masterful use of symbolism, readers are transported to a world of spiritual struggle and triumph.
