The film follows the Graham family, who are still reeling from the death of their matriarch, Ellen. The family is struggling to cope with their loss, and tensions rise as they gather for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. The family consists of Annie (Toni Collette), a grief-stricken mother; Steve (Gabriel Byrne), her husband; Charlie (Milly Shapiro), their teenager daughter; and Peter (Alex Wolff), her younger son.
