The story introduces us to two central families: the Qureshis (traditional, wealthy, and rigid) and the Faruqis (respectable, but caught in a web of secrets). Our protagonist, (played with fierce vulnerability by Surbhi Jyoti), is an orphaned, headstrong, and progressive girl raised by her loving but slightly nervous grandmother, Badi Bi (Shalini Kapoor Sagar). Zoya is not the typical TV heroine who waits to be rescued. She speaks her mind, studies journalism, and dreams of exposing injustice. In contrast, Asad Ahmed Khan (Karan Singh Grover, in his iconic brooding avatar) is the heir to the Qureshi khandaan . He is stoic, principled, and burdened by his mother’s tragic past.
