USSEP must be placed at the very top of your load order, immediately after the official ESM files, to ensure its changes are inherited by other mods. Why Version 1.5.97?

While Bethesda has updated Skyrim to version 1.6 and beyond, many veterans stick to 1.5.97 for several reasons:

USSEP 1.5.97 requires SKSE64 version or 2.0.19 (2.0.19 is recommended). Download this from the SKSE archive site. Never allow Steam to update Skyrim again—disable automatic updates in Steam properties.

As of 2025, the modding community is bifurcated.
