Directed by Martin Campbell (who also helmed 1998’s The Mask of Zorro ), The Legend of Zorro takes place ten years after the original. Alejandro and Elena are now married with a young son, Joaquin. After California votes to become part of the United States, Alejandro continues his fight for justice as Zorro—but his secret life strains his marriage. Elena files for divorce and marries a French nobleman, Armand, who is secretly part of a sinister organization called the Knights of Aragon. Their plan? To prevent California’s statehood and create an independent republic under their control.
