The film is set in the late 1990s and follows the story of Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal), a young and ambitious pharmaceutical sales representative who works for Pfizer. Jamie is assigned to promote a new drug called Viagra, which is about to revolutionize the treatment of erectile dysfunction. During a promotional event, Jamie meets Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway), a free-spirited and beautiful woman who is a waitress at a local restaurant.
